As I get older, I have found myself watching more documentary type films. They generally tend to be geared toward the automotive genre. So when I learned about this film the other day, I became interested.

Going into it, I did not realize it was a full length film (clocks in around 90 minutes or so). So I sat down and started watching it on my iPad. After realizing it was that long, I found it on Vimeo, fired up the Roku box and watched it on my TV instead.

Let me say, it was not what I was expecting, like at all. It was far better. I guess maybe I should have read !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! article a little closer...

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

It was a great film. The ~90 minutes flew by, and I wanted to see more when I was done. Not because it left me with questions or holes in the story, but because I just wanted to know more. I wanted to hear more stories about how Gran Turismo touched the lives of others. Or how others have taken to a motorpsorts life and they seem to be thriving. Or I just wanted to watch more beautifully shot footage of Yamauchi-san driving around. Also, I could sit and listen to him talk or tell stories all day long. I do not know Japanese (but desperately want to learn), but you can tell just by watching his face, and hearing the inflection in his voice, how deeply sincere he is with pretty much anything he holds dear in his life.

So if you are the least bit interested in Gran Turismo, Kazunori Yamauchi, motorsports, or just things that go "VROOM" at all, watch this documentary.

I think saying this film is about Gran Turismo almost does it a disservice, because people will skip based on that. It is one of the "great" automotive films. This does more to explain why people like cars and driving than anything I can think of.

It still falls 2nd to Love the Beast for me, but yeah I whole heartedly agree with you. I actually suggested it to a co-worker this morning. He is not into cars, or even Gran Turismo actually, but said he was interested in watching it just for the story.

I'll have to watch KAZ a few more times to decide on that one. Did you ever see this full conversation from Love the Beast?
